Sophie Carter is a qualified counsellor and coach with postgraduate degrees from the Australian College of Applied Psychology, and a fierce advocate for mental health and wellbeing in the arts. As co-chair of the MEAA Wellbeing Committee, Sophie tirelessly works to improve industry-wide support for performers and creative professionals alike.

Through her creative counselling private practice, Sophie has developed and delivered workshops on topics such as wellbeing, mindset, rejection, and performance anxiety, presenting to leading creative institutions including Opera Scholars Australia, Brent Street, The McDonald College, Village Nation, and Ettingshausens PRO. She has also delivered her own research on mental health in the music theatre industry at the 2024 Music Theatre Futures Conference, and is scheduled to present at the upcoming ASPAH (Australian Society for Performing Arts Healthcare) Conference on her passion subjects - well-being and mindset for creatives. Her advocacy work has also been featured in the award winning documentary, Mental Health and the Actor’s Life.

A proud graduate of WAAPA, Sophie has been a professional singer, dancer, and actor for over 20 years, and continues to perform regularly in the live music scene. Her behind-the-scenes experience as a vocal coach, stage manager, and assistant director — combined with her lived experience as a mum on tour — gives her a uniquely holistic understanding of the demands placed on cast, crew, orchestra, and management. This blend of creative experience, therapeutic expertise, and personal insight allows Sophie to support artists and arts workers with empathy, authenticity, and practical guidance.
